At Superdot, we define information design as an overarching discipline that makes complexity understandable and manageable in an aesthetically pleasing way. We transform unstructured data, complex issues and abstract concepts into clear, appealing visual systems with a systematic approach. Our visualizations create orientation, transparency and a basis for decision-making – always with the aim of making information not only attractive, but above all accessible.
What is Information Design?
Information design is the systematic translation of complex content into visual structures that are aesthetically pleasing and understandable. As an interface discipline between data analysis, design and communication, we work with a modular approach that combines precise content analysis with creative visual design. Good information design helps people to understand complex contexts more quickly and remember them better.
Our Modular Information Design (MID) system is our methodological foundation. This approach enables us not to simplify complexity, but to make it navigable on different levels. We break down complex visualization problems into basic elements and combine these into innovative, customized solutions. «One size does not fit all in todays world»
What sets us apart is our approach: we always start analogue with pen and paper. This deliberate deceleration leads to a deeper understanding of the content and allows us to recognize patterns that digital tools often overlook. Our method creates visualizations that are both precise in terms of content and aesthetically pleasing – and above all, they work. We make complex content accessible to a wide range of target groups, thereby promoting transparency, participation and well-founded decisions.
Why is Information Design important?
In an age of information overload, the ability to grasp complex relationships quickly is crucial. Information design creates visual clarity where text and figures alone reach their limits.
Good information design works on several levels. First of all, it provides an overview of complex data or concepts. It shows connections and patterns that remain hidden in tabular presentations. It invites you to linger and explore, which leads to a deeper understanding.
From a societal perspective, information design democratizes knowledge by making complex topics accessible to broader audiences. It creates a common visual language for dialog on complex topics – from business strategies to societal challenges.
We are convinced that visualization as a problem-solving approach creates more transparency. When people can not only read information, but see it, they develop a deeper understanding and can make better decisions.
